Services Provided

Therapy can vary depending on if you are a child, teen, or adult, or if the family unit as a whole is seeking improvement.

Therapy for Children

I am registered as a Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy.  I provide therapeutic services to children through upper elementary school.  Play therapy focuses on identifying childhood disorders and addressing the symptoms through developmentally appropriate activities.  Common childhood disorders treated in sessions include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Adjustment Disorders
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Social Development
  • Grief and Loss
  • Divorce or Separation of Parents *
  • Anger Management
*It is important for parents to know that I require a copy of the custody paperwork stating sole or joint custody.  I also require contact with both parents in order to best support the child, understand the situation, and address concerns about the child's struggles.  It is both parents' legal right to consent to, or deny, therapy services for their child, and be involved in the therapy.

I ask that every child's parent or guardian remain present in the building during the session. This is for the safety and security of your child.

Therapy for Adolescents
I use cognitive-behavioral and experiential strategies to assist teens with identifying life struggles and developing approaches to reducing their symptoms.  I highly respect the unique challenges that face our young adults, working with them and their parents to resolve concerns. My experience in working with adolescents includes the following:

  • Sexual Identity
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Substance Abuse
  • Anger Management
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Parent-Child Relationship Struggles

Therapy for Adults
Every person has a unique way of addressing problems.  I will work with your identified goals while respecting your culture and lifestyle.   Examples of adult concerns addressed in treatment include:

  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Relationship Problems

  • Work and Career Issues
  • Stress Management
  • Parenting and Family Issues
  • Conflict Resolution

 Parenting Coaching
Parenting is the most difficult job in the world!  There is no "Owner's Manual", "Orientation Manual", or a "How-to-Guide".  Every child is different, every parent is different, and both are incorporated into the family's societal structure.  Something that will work with one child may not be true with a sibling.  The same goes for parents, caretakers, and the community.  I therefore provide parenting coaching to work with parents to identify what would be best for their child, their personality, and their parenting goals.  There are many ways to raise a child so they develop into a well adjusted, happy, and self-respecting individual.  I would be happy to work with you to develop strategies that will work best for you and your child.

Some parents have approached our sessions with significant guilt over events such as divorce, past emotional or psychological abuse, or their children being witness to domestic violence.  Children can have strong reactions to these events and for good reasons, but it does not mean that they are doomed for life.  As a parent myself, I understand greatly how deep this guilt can burrow into our hearts, and at times render us immobilized.  Without blame, I collaborate with parents to develop a plan for guiding their child back to emotional health.  Children end up healthier, stronger, and with an improved parent-child bond.  Additional benefits from parenting coaching include decreasing your parental stress, developing your coping skills, and improving your parental confidence.

Parenting coaching most typically occurs without the child present in order to keep the power with the parent.  It is most beneficial with both or all parents/caretakers, but the effect will not be lost if only one parent participates.  Please contact me if you have further questions, or if you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss how this may benefit you and your child.
